In August the Soda team kicked off a series of Twitter spaces featuring guest speakers from notable DAOs and NFT collections. Soda will continue to host Twitter spaces every two weeks to bring together important projects and cross-pollinate DAOs in the Soda community. Below is a recap of the discussions from the first two spaces of our ongoing series!

Space #1 — Utility and Value Creation

On our August 4th Twitter space we hosted a panel including Meta Panda Club, GoldenDAO, TanakaDAO, Deesse and Sign. Featured panelists for this first Twitter space included World Champion and former Lakers player Metta World Peace, representing Meta Panda Club, as well as current Palo Alto city councilman Greg Tanaka on behalf of TanakaDAO.

In this first Soda-hosted Twitter space, the featured panelists discussed how NFT projects are adding value and utility for collection holders. There was universal agreement among the speakers that the next generation of successful NFT projects must move beyond the simple regenerative PFP format that has marked the first generation of successful collections.

Another topic of discussion was the current crypto bear market. Speakers noted that current macro trends have heighted the importance of NFTs having utility and a strong underlying community. While no one enjoys a bear market, the current market has also shown NFT projects with strong communities can be quite resilient and weather temporary macro trends in the broader market.

Space #2 — Social Impact and Inclusion

The second hosted Twitter space kicked off on August 18th at 4 p.m. Eastern. Our speaker panel included former Democratic presidential candidate Andrew Yang representing GoldenDAO, a second appearance from Greg Tanaka of TanakaDAO as well as speakers representing H.E.R.DAO, ThirstyThirsty, Web3Familia, AlphaDAO and PUML.

The theme for selected projects in this space was a focus on social impact and inclusion. Social DAOs have proven to be a major use case in the DAO landscape. Oftentimes membership in a social DAO is granted through an NFT(s). Social DAOs may host token gated events, and utilize token gated channels of communication such as Discord. Holding an NFT from the project’s collection gives you access to the broader community within the social DAO.

Social DAOs are often rallied behind a particular social cause such as AAPI representation in the case of GoldenDAO, elevating female Web3 developers in the case of H.E.R.DAO, or Web3 education in Latin American communities for Web3Familia.

A major point of agreement between speakers was the importance of IRL events to bring together their communities. Guest speaker Andrew Yang commented on the joy shared between GoldenDAO members when they identify each other IRL through the GoldenDAO ring — a perk granted to holders. BubbleDAO is notable in this area for IRL events hosted by their community across NYC.

The Soda Extension:

Many of the partnered projects featured in our first two Twitter spaces are currently utilizing the Soda Extension. Soda allows NFT collections to seamlessly create a DAO and allows for easy community participation through popular social media channels like Twitter and Facebook. You can learn more about the Soda Extension on our website. Soda is currently available for download in the Google Chrome Store.
